Job Objective:

The eDiscovery Services Financial Analyst will act in a key support role within the firm’s eDiscovery Services team, preparing pro forma, monthly and ad hoc financial reports and billing analyses for the Chief Information Officer and Director of Litigation and eDiscovery Services. This position requires the ability to work under tight deadlines, understand moderately complex technical and financial arrangements, and balance multiple analytical projects at one time. The Financial Analyst must provide first-rate service to internal and external clients, while ensuring the accuracy and reliability of reports and information. Skills Required:

  • Must be technically proficient with professional services billing and reporting systems such as Elite or Aderant.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook, PowerPoint and Word. Basic skills in database query and reporting tools are a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated self-starter with the desire to show ownership and commitment.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure timely receipt and analysis of pro forma, monthly, quarterly and final billing, financial and system reports relating to eDiscovery timekeeping, unit-based and other billing factors.
  • Analyze eDiscovery budgets, billing arrangements, work in progress, system reports, pre-bills and summary billing and financial reports for accuracy and compliance with attorney and client operational and billing expectations.
  • Proactively surface, investigate, troubleshoot and resolve potential budget and billing inconsistencies relating to eDiscovery services. Communicate effectively with attorneys, paralegal and administrative staff regarding all inquiries and avenues for resolution.
  • Generate interim database queries, analyses and reports to provide advance notice of potential budget and billing concerns.
  • Understand, track and report various fee arrangements. Manage corresponding eDiscovery system adjustments, matter transfers and consolidation, billing formats, discounts, write-downs, write-offs, and cost allocations.
  • Assist and prepare monthly and ad hoc reports and analyses related to team utilization, unit-based trends, billing metrics, key performance metrics, case team and departmental budgets, revenue forecasts and profitability.
  • Recommend process and analytical improvements.
  • Provide ad hoc analyses for CIO and Director of Litigation and eDiscovery Services.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2-4 years previous legal or professional services billing experience.
  • Must be technically proficient with professional services billing and reporting systems such as Elite or Aderant.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Basic skills in database query and reporting tools are a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with timekeeping and unit-based billing practices and terminology in the eDiscovery industry is a strong plus.
