Description
The eDiscovery Solutions Attorney is an integral part of Firn’s Technology team. This role will be
responsible for applying experience and advanced knowledge of eDiscovery strategies and best practices
to provide advanced technical and workflow guidance to case teams, Practice Support Services (“PSS”)
colleagues, and directly to strategic clients of the firm, while functioning as the primary liaison between
client eDiscovery teams/counsel and case teams to ensure that client requirements and/or protocols are
executed on a matter level, which includes training case team members and PSS staff on any client
directives for handling eDiscovery. This role can be located in our Los Angeles, San Francisco, San
Diego or Orange County office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule
that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Other key responsibilities include:
Functioning as the primary liaison between client eDiscovery teams / counsel and case teams to
ensure that client requirements and / or protocols are executed on a matter level, which includes
training case team members and PSS staff on any client directives for handling eDiscovery
Understanding both the legal issues and technology issues of a case to assist the case team
with Electronically Stored Information (“ESI”) protocols, orders, meetings with counsel,
conferences, and overall strategy
Monitoring, evaluating, and assessing emerging technology solutions including natural language
processing, artificial intelligence, and GenAI solutions for their suitability in electronic discovery
workflows
Advising case teams on collection strategies for clients who have recurring litigation needs
involving the same individuals
Advising on strategies for identifying key custodians and sources of ESI, including structured and
unstructured data, and prioritizing these records data for early analysis and review
Leading data mapping calls with client and client IT team to explore enterprise and custodial data
sources; discussing any potential challenges with various data sources and assisting the case
team with an action plan to address
Developing a thorough understanding of client data storage policies and protocols including
backup strategies, retention policies, storage limitations, use of home-based and personal
devices, departed employee data, to advise on preservation and collection
Advising case teams and client on collaboration platforms (Slack, Teams, Bloomberg, etc.),
messaging platforms (WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, etc.) and social media platforms (Facebook,
Twitter, Discord, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.) as well as structured data sources and explain to case
teams the nuances for their collection, review, and production
Consulting with case team for the review objectives; advises and recommends strategies on the
use of advanced document review technology, including Technology Assisted Review (TAR),
analytics and initial sampling; establishes and documents baseline statistical targets
Implementing workflows for document review including the use of advanced technology and
Technology Assisted Review (TAR) and ensures all case team members, PSS staff, and contract
attorneys are trained on the document review tools as well as the review workflow
Evaluating search terms to determine effectiveness of the search strategy; advising case teams
on effective search techniques; preparing reports on search term effectiveness, including hit
counts, precision, and recall metrics, to inform the legal team and adjust strategies, as necessary
We’d love to hear from you if you:
Exhibit expert knowledge of the concepts, principles, management, and processing of ESI as they
relate to legal matters, including the use of various ESI management and review tools and
applications
Possess extensive knowledge of eDiscovery review platforms and related technologies such as
Relativity, Nuix, Brainspace, NexLP, Disco and other industry leading tools
Demonstrate excellent leadership skills (e.g., organizing, planning, problem solving and decision-
making, commitment to diversity)
And have:
A Bachelor’s degree
A JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school
Admission to state Bar in relevant location required
A minimum of ten (10) years of litigation practice, paralegal, or practice support experience
A minimum of three (3) years of experience managing large electronic document reviews and
productions
Experience with litigation response and electronic discovery or records management issues
